Chicken Fried Steak Plus the Fixin's
This featured recipe is for Chicken Fried Steak, but not only that it includes the recipe for the Creamy Gravy, the Creole Corn and the Creamy Potatoes! This is a great list of recipes all in one and we thank Lisa, the creator of the Creole Contessa Blog for this tasty contribution.
A little bit about Lisa! She is a California girl, and she gained much of her cooking knowledge watching her grandma, mother and aunties cook. Family and food go hand in hand and Lisa has some great recipes to share with us all. We have featured a few of Lisa's recipes, and the thing I love the most about them is they are from scratch and not too fancy. The ingredients are basic, but the combinations are what make them special.
Although this recipe is called 'Chicken Fried Steak' in fact, you may think you are going to be cooking chicken but you are working with beef tenderloin steaks! For those not familiar with cooking terms, this Southern dish name means it is a piece of steak that is coated with a seasoned flour or crumbs, or combination of both, and then it is pan fried. The creamy gravy is simply made on the stovetop using heavy cream, beef broth and a list of seasonings and flour that you will discover when you read on. The recipe calls for organic corn, but for those of us that cannot get our hands on organic, we could substitute a good frozen corn if fresh if not available. The corn dish is seasoned with Creole seasoning. The creamy potatoes round out this entire meal and my mouth is watering imagining the crispy coating on the meat the corn dish and the mashed potatoes all being drizzled with the creamy gravy!
I love that you don't need to do any planning for this meal other than getting all the ingredients required, choosing the day you are going to cook it then enjoying the process!
