Chocolate Hazelnut Streusel Bread with Salted Caramel Sauce

This chocolate hazelnut streusel bread with salted caramel sauce is out of this world good. I think I was immediately sold when I read salted caramel sauce. Salted caramel sauce seems to really be in vogue at the moment. Go into any, new, trendy French caf in town and the salted caramel macarons are sure to be one of the more popular items. Its kind of unfair when you think about it, because we humans are, by our very nature, programmed to seek out salt and sugar, as they are things that are in relatively short supply in nature. Putting both of them together is tantamount to mind control.

And the caramel sauce is only the icing on this cake (literally). The chocolate hazelnut streussel cake looks divine. Pockets of melted chocolate chips, scattered throughout a crumbly, muffin-like classic streussel bread, crunchy hazel nuts breaking up the cake texture here and there, I cant wait to have a piece of this with a big, dark cup of coffee. The author, Allie, from Baking a Moment acknowledges that the name of this recipe is a bit of a misnomer, its only called a bread because she baked it in a bread pan. Dont be fooled, this is pure, rich, decadent cake.

This seems like the kind of treat that would go oh so well with a big, heaping scoop of good quality vanilla ice cream on the side. Maybe even save a little bit of that salted caramel sauce to drizzel on top of that as well. For how rich this cake looks, it comes together deceptively and surprisingly quickly. Fifteen minutes flat at 425 is all you need to be in chocolate, hazelnut, salted caramel heaven.
