A cinnamon roll is usually a sweet bread roll with a cinnamon and sugar spread on the inside with icing poured on top. They first became popular in Northern Europe and then in North America. In Denmark, it's known as Vienna Bread called Kanelsnegl or cinnamon snail. The main ingredients include flour, cinnamon, sugar, and butter, with yeast as a rising agent sometimes it will even have a cream cheese icing on top.

Coffee cake, on the other hand, is a dessert that's meant to be eaten with coffee or it's sometimes flavoured with coffee. Coffee cake is leavened with baking soda or baking powder or with yeast which would give it more of a bread texture. This easy coffee cake recipe creates a dense coffee cake with a cinnamon flavour and icing on top, so it tastes just like a cinnamon roll without all of the work. The easy coffee cake recipe takes very little time to make and will serve 12 to 14 people all you need is butter, eggs, sugar, flour, vanilla, baking powder, salt and milk for the cake, then for the topping, you'll need more butter, brown sugar, flour and cinnamon. There is also a glaze on top which consists of powdered sugar, milk and vanilla. Once they are well mixed, grease a pan and pour the batter into the pan. Then you need to make the topping and pour it all over the cake before you put it in the oven to bake for about 30 minutes.

While the cake bakes, you can make the glaze, and you'll have a syrupy mixture to pour over top of the cake when it comes out of the oven. You could even heat up your slice of cake in the microwave before eating it to make it into a nice, warm cinnamon bun dessert. You can even make a vegan coffee cake if you don't eat dairy or eggs. The ingredients for a vegan coffee cake would be flour, just like in the regular recipe, brown sugar, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, water, non-dairy milk, vanilla, vegetable oil or coconut oil, apple cider vinegar and a flax egg.
