Classic Fried Cabbage Garlic Onion and Bacon Dish

In this recipe, you'll be using a full head of green cabbage, although you could try it with red cabbage and see how that turns out. You will also need some bacon which is best to get organic and pasture raised. This way the meat won't have a ton of antibiotics and hormones in it, and usually, pasture raised animals tend to have less fat in their meat.
Then, you'll also need an onion, a couple of cloves of garlic, salt, pepper and some other spices and you can also add in some carrots if you like. First of all, you'll want to cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until it's cooked well and it's also nice and crispy. Then, you can drain the excess fat from the bacon on a paper towel and chop into pieces. You can then use the bacon grease to cook up the onion and garlic until they are tender and fragrant. Nothing is more appetizing than the scent of onion and garlic cooking together. Next up you will add the cabbage to cook for ten minutes, so it gets soft and tender. The cabbage will also absorb the flavours of the bacon, garlic and onion really well too. Then, add the bacon on top, and you can also add in a bit of water to steam the cabbage. Once everything is all cooked and mixed together, you can add your spices and salt and pepper and allow that to simmer for a few more minutes stirring as needed. Taste it and add any more seasonings to get it to taste how you like it.
Once it's ready, serve it right away and enjoy warm. You could also serve this up with some sausages, chicken or potatoes. It would also be fine to leave the bacon out if you're a vegetarian or vegan and just add in some meat alternatives or more veggies. There are vegan sausages that actually taste great and would be a great addition to this cabbage dish, or there are vegan bacon alternatives too.
