Cookies n Cream Donuts
When you need a chocolate infusion make up these Cookies n Cream Donuts, which are sure to fit the bill. They are a sweet lover’s treat, and a chocoholics taste sensation. They are also easy to make, inexpensive, and combine several chocolate varieties to create a perfect storm of chocolate-y flavor. They are definitely something the kids will love—and that older kids may be able to make for themselves (and you) with a bit of oversight.
This recipe combines the great flavor of cookies n cream with two other chocolates to create a rich and decadent donut. Even the donuts are a bit of a surprise, made from a commercial starter that makes the task quick and easy. There is no serious deep frying here (just a wee bit of oil in the pan). Then the toppings, at least three layers deep, are piled on. What a treat!
Doughnuts (as they are also sometimes spelled) may have been around for thousands of years, although there is an interesting tale about how they may have come to America. Supposedly, a sailor’s mother prepared deep fried dough as a way to infuse spices and lemon rind into something her son might eat to help prevent scurvy. She buried nuts in to the middle where the dough she was deep frying might not entirely cook, thus naming her invention, dough nuts. And the rest, as they say, is history. Today, of course, we eat Krispy Kreme and Tim Horton’s doughnuts by the millions, popular treats in both Canada and the USA. This dessert is easy to make at home and will hit the spot in the same sweet, delicious, decadent way. Make some today for your family to eat tonight.
