Creamy Potato Ham and Soup

This recipe for Creamy Potato Ham and Soup is a savory and flavorful, hearty soup that is great for those cold, wet days when you need something to warm up your tummy and renew your spirits against the onslaught of fall. It is made from scratch completely, and will take a bit of time to make, but time that is more than well worth the time to spend on it. It blends potatoes and a few other vegetables with any leftover ham you might have (or buy something special) to create a really delicious soup. This soup is so wholesome and filling that, if you add just some bread, it will really be a great stew.

Potatoes are a great and filling food. They are chock full of plenty of goodness, including potassium (more than you find in bananas or spinach) and vitamin C, as well as plenty of other nutrients. This recipe suggests either celery or peas for the soup, to contribute flavor as well as a bit of green color. Consider using both. Celery is a great replacement for salt, and allows you to add less to any recipe where celery is used instead, but it does not replace the flavor of peas. Peas, especially if you buy the small, sweet peas will add a wonderful flavor contrast to the deep and heavy flavors of potatoes and ham. Carrots will also contribute some color and sweetness, as they are high in natural sugars. Consider buying baby carrots (the ones that are super small) and adding them in whole, just for fun.

This is a great dish for the fall, winter or early spring, or even on those summer days when it becomes wet and chilly. This soup will serve plenty and be appreciated by everyone. Consider serving it with cornbread. Enjoy.Find out how to make this recipe and many others at the website, I Heart Nap Time, by following the link below.
