Crock Pot Corned Beef and Cabbage

A dish like Crock Pot Corned Beef and Cabbage really brings the Irish out in me, and I cannot wait to make this dish for my family tonight. This dish has every thing an Irish woman (or man!) could want in a dish for dinner tonight. And it is cheap and quick and easy to make. As always, the crock pot ensures that this dish will be fantastic, the meat tender and juicy, and the veggies perfectly cooked. The combination of foods is great, too, and really filling. Many cooks really under rate cabbage, a member of the cruciferous vegetable family. It cooks up easily and tastes sweetly delicious. It works well with almost any other vegetable, and helps fill you up.

Potatoes are a classic vegetable, also a humble one that we use without thinking about it too much. But potatoes are fabulously nutritious, loaded with Vitamin C and more potassium than many other veggies. Leave the skin on when you cook and add important fiber to the dish, some thing that most of us do not get enough of in our regular food plan each day. Carrots are a great root vegetable, cooking up wonderfully sweet, and loaded with beta carotene, an important phytonutrient. Together, all of these veggies help to flavor the brisket as it cooks in the crock pot.

Of course, the coup de grace in this dish, an Irish woman might argue, lies in the addition of beer to the recipe (and make it Guinness for best flavor). Beer is a great flavoring agent, adding all the richness of its taste to any dish. So do not use light beer or just any thing off the shelf. Choose a dark and flavorful drink that is not too hoppy (this might make the dish bitter). This dish probably takes several hours to make. And, although this suggestion is not Irish, consider tossing in three or four cloves of garlic. Let them cook with the sauce, and serve them with the meal. They taste mild and rich and flavorful when cooked and add important nutrition to this dish. Enjoy it soon!
