They also don't take up a lot of space in the kitchen and they store away nicely. Even though they don't take up a lot of space on the kitchen counter, they have a huge space within them to cook a lot of food up. The Crock Pot was invented by Irving Naxon in 1936 when his mother inspired him by telling him of a Jewish recipe she used to make in Lithuania called cholent. This cholent recipe was made on the Jewish Sabbath day where people were not allowed to do any work, and to only rest. So the cholent recipe was perfect for this day because it cooked all day long. So the Crock Pot was made to be a vessel in which people could put their dinner recipes in, and let them cook all day with no fuss. In the 1970s, the Crock Pot was marketed to working mothers and fathers who could just put the ingredients of a recipe in the Crock Pot before going to work, and then come home and dinner would be ready for the family to feast on. They were popular in the 70s, but decreased in popularity when the microwave came around in the 80s.

Now there are other brands of the Crock Pot which are known as Slow Cookers, and people have gained a bigger interest in Slow Cookers than ever. There are numerous crock pot and slow cooker recipes on the internet, even lists of slow cooker recipes for every day of the year.
