The Crock Pot was invented by Irving Naxon in 1936 when his mother inspired him by telling him of a Jewish recipe she used to make in Lithuania called cholent. This cholent recipe was made on the Jewish Sabbath day where people were not allowed to do any work, and to only rest. So the cholent recipe was perfect for this day because it cooked all day long. So the Crock Pot was made to be a vessel in which people could put their dinner recipes in, and let them cook all day with no fuss. In the 1970s, the Crock Pot was marketed to working mothers and fathers who could just put the ingredients of a recipe in the Crock Pot before going to work, and then come home and dinner would be ready for the family to feast on. They were popular in the 70s, but decreased in popularity when the microwave came around in the 80s.
