Crockpot Swedish Meatballs

Crockpot Swedish Meatballs takes the guesswork out of this dish. Pop them in and just let them simmer for a few hours. And this recipe makes it all easy with pre-packaged seasonings and canned soup. Swedish meatballs are a particular type of meatball, often made smaller than other meatballs (such as Italian) and served in a beefy and creamy sauce rather than one based in tomatoes. Of course, there are many variations on the theme, and what ever suits your family is perfect to serve. Traditionally, though, Swedish meatballs were not eaten often since beef was so expensive, and then they were usually served with potatoes, a cream based gravy and lingon berries, a fruit common to the northern clime.

In this recipe, the meatballs come together quickly using frozen meatballs, soup and seasonings. That means you get just dump everything in to the crock pot and let it cook. Serve them with noodles and sprinkle some fresh parsley or for a real flavor surprise, some grated orange rind over the dish. Either ingredient will add a nice flavor punch to this recipe. Complete the dinner with peas, carrots or a mixed vegetable. Perfect.

Meatballs are always a welcome food, whether they are put in a great Italian sauce, or made with a creamy gravy, or even a simple version that is more a process of assembling the right packaged ingredients than cooking. That does mean this recipe is a great way for a young cook to start to learn the very basics of recipes and how they come together. Any way you serve it, though, this recipe will be welcome by the family as a great meal tonight.
