If you love the varied flavours of Asian cuisine, this crockpot sweet and sour meatballs recipe should be added to your weekly recipe roster. This dish combines homemade meatballs with a sweet, sour and savoury sauce, including soy sauce, sesame oil, ketchup and rice vinegar. This combination of ingredients forms a glossy sauce which coats the meatballs admirably and also seasons them adding briny, sweet and acidic qualities. Chelsea, the author of Chelsea’s Messy Apron recipe blog, came up with this easy meatball recipe, and her family raved about how good they are. She gives instructions for cooking them on the stove, as well as the crockpot. The crockpot method will be ideal for when you are out of the house during the day, but the stovetop method is a little faster. Either way, you can enjoy this sweet and sour meatballs recipe any night of the week, poured over steamed rice.

Unlike other meatball recipes which use frozen meatballs, the meatballs here are mixed and assembled by hand. This way, you can have control over what goes into them, and ensure they are made entirely from ground meat with no fillers. The meat for this easy meal is combined with spicy ginger, onion, coconut milk, and panko crumbs for binding. The ginger here is ground, which means you don’t have to grate the fresh version, making this dish even easier. As with dough recipes, you don’t want to overwork the meat mixture, either, or else the meatballs may become tough once cooked. The best way to ensure the meat isn’t mixed too much would be to combine all the ingredients besides the meat, and then crumble in the meat and knead until just combined. Mixing the other ingredients for this meatball recipe before adding the meat, reduces the amount of mixing time for the meat. You can pre-make several batches of these meatballs and freeze them raw so that they will be ready for quick meals through the week. Just make sure they are wrapped tightly to prevent freezer burn.

Easy and delicious dinner recipes, like these meatballs, will be all you’ll need to get your kids to the table. When children are picky eaters, they will enjoy the full flavoured taste of these meatballs with rice. Nutritious bell peppers are also included, which have good amounts of vitamin A and C. The sauce for this comfort meal includes the juice from mandarin oranges, which are sweet and full of vitamin C. The sauce to this meatball recipe is so zesty that you will want to drizzle it over everything. It can even be used on cubed cooked chicken or pork for a new take on this dish.

Once you have prepared this crockpot recipe once, it will become a favourite in your household. The bonus for you is that it is also incredibly easy to make, taking less than thirty minutes hands-on time altogether. You can change up the vegetables in this dish to what you have on hand. Consider adding broccoli, bok choy or snap peas to this dish, or wilt in some greens towards the end of cooking. Additionally, you can serve this over other starches besides rice, like chow mein noodles or high fibre soba noodles. If you are a low carb eater, wrap up these meatballs in lettuce leaves for an Asian-inspired taco. Either way, you will be sure to enjoy the combination of flavours in this tasty dish.
