Easy Homemade Hotdog Chili

Okay, so this is a fun chili recipe made with either turkey or beef that is intended to go on top of a hot dog, in a hot dog bun. This Easy Homemade Hotdog Chili recipe is fantastic, of course, and every one loves just how tomato-y and rich they taste. Of course, the other half of the fun is in slopping the sauce down our shirts, on our fingers, and generally making a mess of things. That is just how hot dog chili and buns should always be made. They should be too big to finish, and too hot to hold (except for the little ones, of course!). There is something so child like and that brings every one back to their childhoods when eating a hot dog, with whatever toppings go on it.

A hot dog is one of the quintessential foods of childhood. Somehow fond memories and hot dogs are always mixed up together. And every thing tastes great on a dog from the sour sauerkraut toppings, to plain earthy mustard, to the sloppiness of hot dog and chili. What ever it is that you do to a dog, it is always ever edible. And the best ones are plain. No cheese in the middle, or spiced up flavors, just a plain dog. And they are equally delicious served on your back deck as bought in Times Square in New York City. In fact, in some ways, eating a dog from a stand in the city is almost better than eating one in your back yard. That might be because the dog makes the city seem brighter and better, some how whereas our back yard is always perfect, in every season.

So enjoy this easy recipe, and even make it with the kids helping. It is very easy to pull together, and they might enjoy seeing how the chili is prepared for their dogs. And then let them help with the dogs, even if just pulling the buns apart, or counting the dogs. This is family food. Enjoy it.
