When it comes to cool recipes for dessert, these Easy Smores Cupcakes are about as fun as it gets. Many people will remember having smores growing up. Circled around a campfire in the heat of the summer nights, enjoying sing-alongs with friends or family or maybe even funny stories or ghost stories. The smore is always one of those fun desserts that you may have looked forward to every summer, and maybe you still look forward to having at least one or two every summer. Smores have been around for quite some time, originating with some of the first Girl Scouts, a group that young girls can join to help them learn new skills and enjoy time together. The girl scouts would often go on camping trips together, with adult supervision, and on these camping trips, they would often make fun desserts and other fun recipes over the campfire. Back in 1927, the first official publication of the Smores recipe was published in a Girl Scouts magazine called Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts. Even though people are not certain of the origin of the recipe or who invented it initially, Loretta Scott Crew was credited with introducing it to the girls in the magazine when she made the smores for them and taught them how to make them too.

Smores consist of graham crackers, a marshmallow, and some chocolate squares. The marshmallow is roasted to a nice, golden brown over the open flame of the campfire, by sliding the marshmallow onto a prepared stick that has a pointed end, or even a metal clothes hanger, there are even special marshmallow roasting sticks now that can roast up to four marshmallows at a time. The marshmallows are usually the best when the hot coals of the fire are used to roast them, so the flames don't burn them up. They are ready when the outside of the marshmallow has turned to a nice, golden brown, and the outside is a little crispy with the inside being warm and melted. The hot marshmallow is placed on top of one graham cracker with a piece of chocolate on top and another graham cracker to sandwich it all together. The result is delicious melted chocolate and marshmallow and the crunchy sweetness of graham crackers. It is one of the most simple dessert recipes ever, yet it is so yummy.
