More people are realizing the powers of nature to provide us with all we need, like this awesome Electricity-free Groundfridge Lets You Store Produce Without Traditional Refrigeration! People have used this technology for centuries, and this was how people stored their food before electricity. Many people still have cold storage units or rooms in their homes, in the basements, where it stays nice and chilled. This is using a technology as old as time, the technology of the Earth! The Earth's ground is much cooler below the surface of the soil, and so this provides the best cooling for any food items that need to remain cold to be preserved.

The Groundfridge is a new take on this natural technology, and is a system that you can purchase, and place in the ground, covered with soil and use as produce storage. The article over at Off Grid World, even suggests planting a garden of fruits and veggies on top of it, now wouldn't that be a great idea! The well designed unit stays at around 50 to 54 degrees Fahrenheit, through out the whole year, no matter what the season. The Groundfridge can store up to 3000 litres of produce, which is equivalent to 20 normal electric refrigerators!

This would be great for an off grid, self sustainable family, growing all of their own fruits and vegetables. The design is quite cool too, there are several steps you walk down to get to the large sphere shaped space, that would hold all of the food on the shelves provided right in the Groundfridge. The shelves are perfect to be able to store a lot of produce efficiently. They are quite expensive right now, but once the demand goes up, perhaps the prices can drop. I would love one of these!
