Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy
Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy is a perfect comfort dish to serve on a cold night when the weather is just not cooperating and every one is snuggled in at home for the night. It is a simple dish, made with great seasonings such as sherry, beef broth and Worcestershire sauce that combine to create great depth of flavor in the meat. So, although this meat is not tenderloin, it still has great taste (at a much lower price) that your family will enjoy. And the sauce, made from plenty of onions and beef stock, is always delicious.
Serve this meal with smashed garlic potatoes. Do not remove the skins from the potatoes to keep its nutrient contribution high, especially the fiber. Just boil the potatoes, and at the very last minute, add plenty of smashed cloves of garlic and let them boil with the potatoes. Remove them from the heat, and add the things you enjoy in smashed potatoes. That could include lots of butter, olive oil, yogurt, sour cream, milk, mushrooms, cream, cream cheese or whatever you use to make the potatoes a creamy treat. Make some steamed greens, kale, Swiss chard, spinach or even a blend of all of them, to serve on the side. Yum.
This is a great comfort dish, filling, flavorful, all the components that make the kids come back for second helpings. It is easy to make, and you could even blend and freeze these steaks so that you can just pull them from the freezer, thaw them, and then bake them on any night of the week when you want to enjoy a dish like this one.
