How to clean and deodorize a microwave
Is your microwave looking and smelling a bit unpleasant lately? It could be due for a good cleaning. Stains, stuck on food and weird odours, they are all something we deal with if we use a microwave on a constant basis. Our microwaves make our lives so much easier, so why not make cleaning it easier with some great cleaning tips? Kim from Today's Creative Life shares with us her favourite cleaning tips for cleaning a microwave using natural house cleaners. Since you use your microwave to cook food, it's very important that you not use chemicals to clean it. If you do, they could off-gas and absorb into the foods you're heating or cooking in your microwave which wouldn't be good for your health. The good news is that you can easily clean your microwave using natural house cleaners like vinegar, lemon and water. These natural house cleaners are perfect for cleaning pretty much anything in your kitchen as well as in your bathroom. Vinegar and lemon have antibacterial and deodorizing properties which makes them both perfect for cleaning tough stains and tackling bad odours in a microwave. For this cleaning tip, you'll be using apple cider vinegar which is a bit different than white vinegar, but it does a great job of cleaning just like white vinegar does, plus, it's good for your health.
You will also need some lemons too, or some lemon juice or lemon essential oil. You basically use these natural house cleaners in some water and let the microwave do all of the cleaning for you. How is this possible? Well, you put the two ingredients into the water in a microwavable bowl or cup, and then you allow it to heat up with the microwave on and it will create steam. This steam will be perfect for loosening up all of the stuck on food and grease in the microwave, plus it will neutralize any odours that may linger. Just slice up two lemons and pour a quarter of a cup of the apple cider vinegar in a bowl with some water and put the lemons in. If you're using lemon juice, just put a few tablespoons in and if you're using lemon essential oil put a few drops in. Put the bowl or cup with the natural house cleaners in them and let it heat up for a minute or more, enough time to generate steam. Then, once the time is up, don't open the doot. Just allow the steam to sit in the microwave for at least 10 minutes to really do its magic.
Set a timer for 10 minutes and do the dishes while you're waiting or another kitchen chore. Once the time is up on your timer, you can open the microwave and start washing down the walls with a warm damp cloth. The stuck on food and grime will come off so easily. You can also use some more natural house cleaners like a mixture of vinegar and water with essential oils in a spray bottle to rinse it out and deep clean it. If your microwave has a plate in it, make sure you remove that so you can clean underneath it too. Also, make sure you clean the plate itself. Just put it in your sink with some warm water and dish soap and wash it just as you would any other dish or plate. Then, make sure it's dry before you put it back into your microwave. By cleaning your microwave using these handy cleaning tips once a week, it will stay clean all the time, and it won't smell too bad anymore either.***
