Our dishwashers work hard to clean all of our dirty dishes, and even though it's an appliance that does the cleaning, it does need to be cleaned itself too. You might realize that your dishwasher needs a good cleaning when it starts to smell bad. You might notice a musty odour or an odour that smells like food from the food that gets stuck in the dishwasher. Or, besides an odour, you may notice that your dishwashing machine doesn't wash dishes as well as it used to. This could be because the parts of the dishwasher are plugged up with food and soap residue. The good news is, it's very easy to wash your dishwasher with some very simple cleaning tips. You will also notice that once you clean out your dishwasher, it will start running better too resulting in cleaner dishes and a lower utility bill since it's running more efficiently. You'll also ensure that your machine will last longer as well since taking care of it will only prolong its life. So you can try these cleaning tips and use them once every couple of months or more often depending on how much you use your dishwasher.

The other great thing is you can clean your dishwasher with natural cleaners. The best natural cleaners by far are white distilled vinegar and baking soda. They are usually in most people's cleaning arsenals when it comes to natural cleaners. White vinegar is great because it disinfects, it is antibacterial and antifungal, so it will clear out any bacteria and any mould if there is any. It also deodorizes too which is great if your machine has a funky odour you want to get rid of. Baking soda is much like vinegar in that it deodorizes and disinfects, but it also provides an abrasive cleanser to help scrub the inside of your machine. The two cleaners together provide some great cleaning action and a foaming reaction that will work to clean away any build-up and grime that's covering the inside of your machine and its parts. So first get your baking soda and vinegar, as well as a dishwasher safe cup. In this cleaning tip from Hometalk, Shawna shares how to use these natural cleaners and the power of your dishwasher to clean itself. So take the cup and put it upright on the top shelf of the dishwasher. Then add vinegar to the cup filling it pretty much full. Then, take your baking soda and sprinkle it all over the inside of your dishwasher. Then set your machine to wash on the hottest setting, this way the hot water will also work to loosen up any stuck on food and soap residue.

Leave the machine to go through a full cycle with the vinegar and baking soda and hot water, then when the cycle is done, open it up and see how clean it is on the inside. You'll probably notice that any odours are gone, but if they aren't you can always run through this cleaning tutorial once again or as many times as needed to clean it properly. Then keep on doing this cleaning routine to keep your washing machine functioning optimally. This is also a great cleaning tip for your laundry machine too. Since detergent can clog up our laundry washing machines, it's important to clean them out in a similar way. Just pour the vinegar right into the soap dispenser and run it through on the hottest and longest cycle to get a clean, odour free washing machine. Try out these cleaning tips and see how much better your appliances work with a good deep clean.***
