You may imagine that a cake that has a name like "hummingbird cake," would be nice and light, and fruity and in fact, it is all of these things. This hummingbird cake is full of tropical flavors, with pineapple and banana in the ingredients. Then, the baked cake is usually topped with a nice and creamy cream cheese icing, which would make for a great flavor combination. It almost seems similar to a carrot cake, but with tropical fruit instead of carrots and this one is bake in the form of a bunt cake which is a very simple cake to bake.

The hummingbird cake recipe is different from other recipes because it includes oil instead of butter in the recipe, and it also includes more fruit than flour. The cake is thought to have been invented in the 1960s in Jamaica, which would explain the Caribbean fruity flavors that are so prominent. This cake would be sweet enough to attract little hummingbirds which is why they called it a hummingbird cake. A very cute name indeed. If you like, you can add nuts on top of the cake for an extra dimension of flavor and nutrition. The nuts would balance out the sweetness really nicely actually. Sometimes people decorate their hummingbird cakes with edible flowers like pansies, which look gorgeous all over the beautiful cake. So if you are looking to bake a cake that is super special for any occasion, this simple cake recipe might just be the one to try out. It would be a hit at any gathering.
