Spicy Homemade Hummus
Finding healthy snack ideas can be easy when you know what foods are healthy to eat and have printable easy recipes to make them. A healthy snack food that has been around for a very long time is hummus. Hummus is created out of boiled chickpeas that get pureed and mixed with lemon juice, sometimes with tahini - which is pureed sesame seeds, sea salt and other ingredients. This healthy snack is the perfect thing to make a big batch of so that you always have some in your refrigerator. Hummus is not only a healthy snack food, it can also be used as a topping or a spread for sandwiches and burgers or made into a salad dressing. This hummus recipe is not made with tahini which is great if you or someone in your family has a nut or seed allergy. Hummus is also vegan and gluten free, so pretty much any one can enjoy it.
1 can chickpeas, drained and rinse
juice of 1 small lemon
salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon red chili flakes (or to taste)
Rinse and drain the can of chickpeas.
Place all ingredients into food processor.
Blend until creamy.
Taste before serving to see if it needs more salt or spice.
Serve with your choice of vegetables or crackers. (Use gluten free crackers for a gluten free recipe)
Try adding different flavours to your hummus recipe.
