Spaghetti With A Simple Meat Sauce

This is a traditional spaghetti sauce that is very easy to make, and has a lot of great flavour too. The homemade spaghetti sauce makes 8 servings and each serving has only 177 calories and 5.7 grams of fat. Because of the beef included in the homemade spaghetti sauce, there is 20 grams of protein. The tomatoes and other vegetables and herbs in the sauce give each serving 39 percent of your daily recommended vitamin C and 4 percent of the calcium you need. Makes 8 servings

1 Tablespoon olive oil
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
1 (16 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Optional: freshly chopped parsley for garnish
Heat the oil in a dutch oven or large pot.
Add the chopped onion and cook a few minutes until tender.
Add the garlic and cook one minute longer.
Add the ground beef and cook, breaking apart into a crumble texture. Cook about 5-10 minutes until no pink remains.
Add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste into the pot and stir in.
Season with oregano salt, and pepper.
Simmer spaghetti sauce for 30-45 minutes stirring occasionally.
Serve with pasta.
