The middle layer is the standard recipe made with lots of cream cheese and turning out rich and creamy, just the way a cheesecake recipe should. There are a few somewhat different ingredients that are included in order to complement and contrast against the salted caramel. That includes the brown sugar that is not usually added in to a standard cheesecake recipe, and the sour cream. These are two great ingredients to add here. The middle is baked as usual, and then allowed to chill completely. You could even leave the cheesecake to sit for the night, if you like, and allow the flavor to really come together for this dessert.

The topping is made from a commercial caramel, although you can find a quick and easy recipe online in order to make it from scratch if you prefer. Either way, your up and coming baker could attempt to put this part of the cheesecake recipe together. The homemade version of the caramel would require some supervision, as this can be easily burnt. The commercial choice is a lot easier. A salt is just added to the caramel and then the result is drizzled on top of the cheesecake. Voila! You now have Salted Caramel Cheesecake.
