Jello Layer Cake
Need some new recipes for kids birthday cakes? Give our Jello Layer cake a try. This is one fun food for kids, or the kids at heart, made with layers of colourful fruity jello. Bright colours always make a celebration more festive, and for this recipe you can choose any five colours or flavours of Jello powder you like. Maybe you would like to do make a proper rainbow sequence of colours starting with red, orange, yellow, then adding the green, and blue, and maybe even fit in violet at the end. The best jello recipes also include either whipped cream or a creamy layer, and this recipe has a few layers of condensed milk in it. The white layers make the whole cake look really cool. One of the other great things about this recipe is that there are only 4 ingredients; jello, water, condensed milk, and gelatine, plus, it's a lighter option compared to some of the denser, heavier cakes and icing.
Makes a 9x13 inch cake
This is a printable recipe.
7 cups boiling water, divided
1 can (300ml) sweetened condensed milk
5 packages Jello, choose any colors you like
7 envelopes gelatin (each envelope is 1 Tablespoon)
Mix 1 cup boiling water with condensed milk.
Mix 2 envelopes gelatin with 1 cup boiling water. Combine them all together. Divide this into 4 equal portions and set aside.
Jello and Assembly:
Mix 1 package Jello and 1 package gelatin with 1 cup boiling water.
Pour this first layer of prepared Jello into an 9x13 inch glass baking dish. Cool in the refrigerator for 15 minutes or until set.
Pour one portion of the milk mixture gently onto the set Jello, and then cool in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.
Repeat these steps alternating jello and milk mixture for all 5 colors, letting each layer set in the refrigerator as you go.
Keep the Jello Cake in the refrigerator.
You can either cut into squares or you can us shaped cookie cutters to cut your pieces.
A 9x13-inch pan makes for more layers, but thinner. You can make in a 9x9-inch pan and they will be thicker layers.
