Plus, they look really cute, and they smell amazing too. Mosquitos can be tricky to keep away, and you can try all sorts of diy ideas and use all sorts of different products to keep them at bay. But a lot of these products are filled with chemicals that aren't good for us or the environment. They do a good job of keeping them away, but we end up with smelly, toxic fumes covering our bodies. The scented candles are great, but often they're made with chemical ingredients too and not natural essential oils. When it comes to healthy living, you want to eliminate as many chemicals as you can from your life so using some of these diy ideas and natural remedies for deterring mosquitos will be valuable. Mosquitos and most bugs actually really despise the scent of citrus fruit, which is a good thing because we can use all-natural ingredients to keep them away. Other essential oils that will help deter the bugs are peppermint, cinnamon, citronella, cedar, clove, lemongrass, rosemary, thyme, lavender, catnip, patchouli, tea tree oil, eucalyptus and sage. But as always, be careful if you're going to use any of these on your skin and always dilute them with a natural lotion or a carrier oil like coconut oil.

Also, always make sure you buy 100% pure high-grade essential oils, this will ensure they'll work effectively and that they won't cause harm to you or your family members. Most essential oils are also safe to use on pets and kids, but again be sure to dilute them appropriately. You can make your own insect repellant spray by mixing 2 ounces of distilled water, 1.5 ounces of witch hazel, 30-60 drops total of essential oils including lemon, eucalyptus, peppermint and lavender. Mix it all in a clean glass spray bottle with a little bit of castile soap to distribute the oils evenly throughout the water, and shake before each use. The other diy ideas for keeping the pests away include making these great mason jar candles, one of the cool diy ideas from A Little CLAIREification.
