Some of the Italian lemon varieties include The Bearss, The Femminello which is one of Italy's oldest lemon varieties, The Genoa, and The Volkamer which is thought to be a hybrid of the orange and the lemon. Lemons are also really great for your health being very good for alkalizing the pH levels in the body when some of the fresh juice from the lemon is drank in luke warm water every day. Having a pH that is alkaline can improve immune function and keep illnesses at bay. Since our bodies will self regulate and help to maintain homeostasis which is a way of maintaining balance in the body and all systems, the body will work hard to neutralize any acidity in the body. So, to help our bodies out, we can eat the best foods possible that have less of an acidic pH. Eating plenty of alkaline foods like vegetables, specifically leafy green vegetables, fruits, and nuts will help to balance out your pH levels. Eating too many acidic foods like meat, sugar and dairy, and drinking drinks like processed fruit juice, alcohol, and coffee will increase acidity in the body, so if you wanted to be more alkaline, you could reduce intake of these foods and beverages. There are even lifestyles geared around eating a fully alkaline diet that monitors the amount of acidic foods the person eats while eating a diet high in alkaline foods.

While these lemon scones are not the absolute healthiest or most alkaline way to get your dose of lemon, they are a wonderful treat to indulge in once in a while.
