My Favorite Blueberry Scones

Blueberries say summer in ways that bring back fond memories of family outings where we would pick them ourselves in the U-picks outside town and then return home where mom would make the sweetest, darkest blue, blueberry scones. These may be my favorite Blueberry Scones of all. Dont be afraid to dress them up with fresh berries and even some whipped cream and serve them as a sweet dessert treat for dinner or as an extra special late afternoon snack with a hot cup of tea.

Did you know that blueberries are an amazing antioxidant and chock-a-block with vitamins and minerals? They are considered one of the worlds healthiest foods, and you can only find them in North America. If you are really lucky, you may live somewhere that you can just go out and pick them wild. Otherwise, you can find them in your fresh fruit aisle at the grocers or in the freezer section. Blueberries are one of our favorite fruits, second in popularity only behind strawberries, another healthy and delicious summer berry.

The great thing about this recipe is that you can make it in the summer or winter. Thats because blueberries freeze really well, and you can use either fresh or frozen to make this recipe. So lets get started!

One trick to making light and delicious scones is to not overwork the dough. Blend quickly and lightly and your scones will turn out better than a bakerys. A final flourish with this blueberry scone recipe is that it includes a really unique drizzle of vanilla glaze over the top. The sweetness of the glaze really works well with the tangy blueberry flavor. Try making some today. Theyre not hard, and for a new cook, this is a great first recipe to start out baking.
