Here is an old fashioned butter cake recipe to try out for any occasion. Learning how to bake a cake can be a fun, yet daunting process when you are a beginner baker. This butter cake gives you very classic cake recipe to use for a variety of recipes. Many recipes call for yellow cake recipes or yellow cake that comes from a box. If you like to make recipes from scratch rather than using the boxed cake mixes, then this butter cake recipe will be a great one to have on hand. This recipe makes use of both cake flour and all purpose flour, which gives the cake a nice fluffy yet perfectly dense texture. Sometimes baking a cake with just all purpose flour can make the result too dense and heavy, depending on the other ingredients in the cake. Using the cake flour which has the perfect consistency for baking cakes might just be the answer to a good cake. Other cakes can become too crumbly, and they don't hold together very well which is the result of a very dry cake.

Cakes have been baked for centuries and enjoyed for birthdays and other celebrations as well as for after dinner treats. Cakes are also made to enjoy as a snack sometimes too, like when people have coffee and cake or tea and cake. Learning how to bake a cake can be one of the best dessert recipes you learn to bake since there are so many different varieties of cake out there. There are white cakes and yellow cakes, like the one in this recipe. There is of course chocolate cake that is flavoured with the delicious, rich flavour of cocoa powder. Then there are also strawberry flavoured cakes with either pureed strawberries in the cake recipes, or an artificial strawberry flavour added to the recipe. Lemon cakes are also one of the more popular cake recipes and they are great with some raspberries and a bit of whipped cream. There is also carrot cake which was originally made with carrots because they contain a sweetness that would help to sweeten the cake without as much sugar.

This yellow butter cake is a very versatile cake recipe that you could enjoy in many different ways. For example, you could frost it with chocolate or vanilla icing, or have it with whipped cream and fruit. You could even bake two or three of these cakes and make a layered cake with layers of icing and cake to enjoy. Did you know that round cakes were originally meant to represent the moon and the candles to represent the illumination of the moon? The smoke from the blown out candles is thought to carry your wishes to heaven to then be delivered to you. Thank you to Melissa from Melissa's Southern Kitchen for this fabulous, classic recipe.
