Do you love fudge? Many people do, not only because it's so delicious and full of rich flavour, but also because it's super easy to make. It's one of those easy dessert recipes you pull out whenever you need a quick treat to bring to a bake sale or serve at a gathering. It's also a well-loved Christmas treat. There are so many different types of fudge with different recipes and flavours. From the classic chocolate fudge, we all know and love, to the more interesting flavours like cotton candy or liquorice. This recipe for fudge candy is very appropriate for Christmas because of the peppermint that's infused into it. It also has Oreo cookies in it for an added layer of flavour, so this fudge is going to be an instant hit. You'll probably end up making it every Christmas from now on. Peppermint is a very Christmas flavour. All of the candy canes and mint flavoured chocolates are synonymous with Christmas.

There's not a lot of information as to why peppermint is so popular around Christmas, but back in 1670, a choir leader at Cologne Cathedral would give the kids in the living Nativity scene candy to keep them happy. These candies were shaped to look like the shepherd’s staff from the shepherds in the nativity. Then the peppermint flavour was added to them later on, and they became a popular addition to Christmas trees. From there the mint flavour spread to other types of candies and dessert recipes, and it's just become a natural part of Christmas time. So whether you love it or hate it, there is always a lot of it around that time of year. Go to the grocery stores, and you'll see peppermint flavoured chocolate, hot chocolate, M&Ms, cookies and so on. So why not make some peppermint fudge too? This is a great recipe for fudge candy coming to us from Kristyn of Lil Luna. You can put it out on your holiday treat tray or give some to friends as a gift in a cute little treat bag.

For the recipe, all you need is some sugar, heavy cream, salt, butter, white chocolate chips, Marshmallow Fluff, Andes Peppermint Crunch Bits and Oreo cookies. You can get even more festive and use the ones with red and green filling.

Then all you do is line a pan with parchment paper to keep the fudge from sticking to your pan and then put the white chocolate chips and the marshmallow fluff into a bowl together and set to the side. Next, you're going to start heating a pan on the stove on medium heat and add in the sugar, cream and butter. Heat it until it starts to boil and cook it for about 5 minutes. Then, pour the melted ingredients into the chocolate and the marshmallow and mix with an electric mixer until it's all mixed up. Then you'll stir in the peppermint crunch pieces, and the crushed up Oreo cookies and combine well. Then, just simply pour the mixture into the pan and sprinkle with some more peppermint pieces and chill in the fridge until set. Usually, it takes about 3 to 5 hours. The result looks so festive, and it also tastes very festive as well. Cut them up into small little square pieces and serve or package up and give away to friends.
