Salted Caramel and Dark Chocolate Blondies
Salted Caramel and Dark Chocolate Blondies are a fabulously rich and delicious treat that you can save for some special event where you want to surprise your dinner guests with this combination of salt and sweet. Although the combination of salt and sweet is not really new, it is not found frequently. So when you come across the surprise of it in any dish, it brings a welcome contrast of flavors that both gives you a break from, and yet enhances, the sweetness of what you are eating.
The use of salt in sweet dishes is something to keep in mind when you are making your own dishes. Use a very high quality salt, like Maledon or even Hawaiian black salt. Use these salts very sparingly, and think about how you want to highlight this flavor. For example, if you make a double or triple chocolate cookie (with dark chocolate melted in to the cookie, chopped chocolate chunks in the cookie and a chocolate glaze) then you might sprinkle (very lightly) a few grains of salt on top of the glaze. In this particular recipe, the salt is added in to the caramel, a common place to add the salt. When you taste the caramel (which you will) the sweetness will be in the foreground, but then a salty finish will follow. It is absolutely delicious, and a great complement for this rich and sweet dish.
This dish has multiple layers to it, and plenty of rich ingredients. Take some time to read over how it is made, and then enjoy the process. Be sure to reward yourself with a big piece of these Salted Caramel and Dark Chocolate Blondies and a hot cup of tea. Enjoy it soon.
