If you're looking for crock pot meal ideas and appetizer ideas, this yummy slow cooker sweet and spicy sausage bites recipe will be perfect for you. These would make great snacks for your family or to take to a party or a gathering. People love bite-sized food like this because it's so easy to eat, and because of all the flavour packed into the tiny bites. Nicole Harris from Wonky Wonderful says she loves appetizers more than meals, and there are many people who could agree with that. So when it comes to crock pot recipes, she likes to make things like this that could easily be made into a meal or served up as an appetizer. For those wondering what the difference is between a crock pot and a slow cooker, there really is no difference; a crock pot is just the brand name of the first slow cooker machine. Much like Kleenex is a brand of tissue, but people call other brands of tissues kleenex sometimes. So you can use the term crock pot and slow cooker interchangeably, and you can use crock pot meal ideas and make them in your slow cooker that's not a Crock-Pot brand. Now, for this crock pot recipe, there is a version of this recipe that uses grape jelly, but for this version, you're going to be using apricot jam.

You can also make this recipe into a meal by serving it over rice with some healthy vegetables or a salad. The rice will soak up some of the sauce, and the vegetables balance it all out for a healthy meal. Since the sausages Nicole uses are turkey sausages, it's also a leaner option than using pork sausages. You could also use meat free sausages for a vegetarian or vegan option, or you could even use chicken sausages. Always try and get organic pasture-raised meat whenever you can too. It's been shown that the meat from pasture-raised animals contains less fat than factory farm raised animal's meat. This is because many factory farms will make the chickens gain weight so they can sell their product for a higher price. Sometimes they even put water in the meat to make it weigh more. Also, pasture raised animals generally have a better lifestyle than most factory farm raised animals which makes pasture-raised meat a better choice overall.

So all you'll need is two packages of a good turkey or chicken sausage, and then you'll cut it into 1.5-inch pieces. You'll also need some of your favourite barbeque sauce, or you can easily make some yourself with some ketchup, sweetener, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar and some paprika or cayenne for spice. You'll also need the apricot jam for the sweet and some Sriracha Hot Sauce for the spice. You can also make your own hot sauce with some cayenne powder, or you can use any hot sauce you have around. You'll also add in some water to make the sauce easy to spread out over the sausage. Then, you simply add everything to the slow cooker and cook it on low for 5 to 6 hours and increase the heat to high for the last 30 minutes. Or, you can also cook it on high if you're in a hurry for 3 to 4 hours. When the sausage is done simmering and cooking, you can take it out and serve it up as a meal, or you can put the sausage bites on a plate with some toothpicks in them for easy eating.
