The best way to clean upholstery using just one ingredient!
Just as our carpets need to be cleaned regularly to keep them in good shape, you also need to clean your upholstered furniture regularly too. It doesn't seem to matter how well you mind yourself on your furniture, spills and stains are bound to happen at some point or another. Especially if you have kids or pets at home. Even just by sitting on your furniture regularly it accumulates dust and sweat too, which is why it needs a refresh often. It turns out that there are some wonderful natural cleaners you can use to clean furniture including one very common one, baking soda. You may already have this natural ingredient in your pantry to use in baking recipes, but it's also very useful as a cleaner too. It's handy to have a box of baking soda for recipes and one for cleaning as well. It makes a great natural and gentle abrasive cleanser much like Ajax or Comet but without all of the bleaches and other harsh chemicals. Baking soda also neutralizes odours, and it acts as a disinfectant too. It's also very helpful for getting rid of mold and mildew as well which is great if you have noticed them growing in your home. Baking soda can be used straight on your furniture in powder form. Just sprinkle some of it on your furniture, allow it to sit so it can soak up all of the odours and bacteria and then vacuum it up afterwards. Just make sure that no one sits on the piece of furniture while you're doing this cleaning tip.
If there happen to be any stains on your furniture, these are also easily cleaned with some dish soap and water. Just put a drop of dish soap on the stain and add a bit of water and blot the area with a paper towel. You can also add some baking soda to the stain to help it lift from the fabric even more. You can even add some essential oils to your baking soda mix before you sprinkle it onto your furniture, so it leaves behind a nice, fresh scent. Use baking soda in this way on your mattresses for a similar effect and to dry up any lingering sweat or moisture. Doing this at least once a month or every time you change your sheets can really extend the life of your mattress. Plus it will leave your bedroom smelling so fresh and clean. Just take all sheets and coverings off of your mattress and sprinkle a decent amount of baking soda on, then allow it to sit for at least 30 minutes and vacuum up.
These cleaning tips don't just work to clean furniture; they also work to clean carpets too. Using natural cleaners to freshen your carpets will help them last longer, and it will keep toxins out of your home. For a quick freshening up of your carpets or rugs, just sprinkle some baking soda either with or without essential oils mixed in and then allow to sit for 30 minutes or more before vacuuming up. Do this every month or every couple of weeks if you have pets in the house. Baking soda is also great as a paste when you mix some water with it. You can then use it on tiles and bathtubs, as well as in your bathroom and kitchen sink. It also works wonders when mixed with some vinegar to unclog drains and to clean out your oven. Try these cleaning tips using natural cleaners and see how much cleaner your furniture will look and feel.***
