Whipped Cream Fruit Salad aka Waldorf Salad
Try this whipped cream fruit salad (Waldorf Salad) and see how your family runs to the dinner table. There is little that can go wrong with a salad that includes whipped cream. Everyone loves its creamy, cool and smooth taste. This recipe is a twist on the traditional Waldorf incorporating some new ingredients to make it a fresh and fun take on that classic.
Classic Waldorf salad is a combination of apples, walnuts and celery, tossed in a mayonnaise dressing, and served on top of a bed of lettuce. It was invented in the late 19th century at the Waldorf hotel; thus, its name. Each of the ingredients is a nutritional work horse and tastes great in combination.
This particular recipe plays on the idea of fruit in salad, but contains one or two treats to entice eating. For finicky eaters this approach can be a great way to get them started on at least trying the salad idea.
This salad would be a great choice for a picnic, family get together, day outing, BBQ or other times when family and friends come together to share friendship and a meal. If you plan to be outside, be sure this salad is chilled really well and sits on an ice pack of ice cubes in a bag in order that it stays cold and fresh.
Young cooks and bakers can probably make this dish by themselves, although you might then want to increase the amount of marshmallows you buy. There is something really irresistible about marshmallows, especially mini marshmallows, for young people and older ones, alike. So stock up!
This recipe can be made quickly and easily, and it is economical, too. Try it out for dinner tonight and see what your family thinks. We think it will soon become one that they ask for every time there is a BBQ or with any other excuse where they think it will get made.
